Sick (Music) Center supports experiments in sick/disabled music-making for sick liberation.

is an experimental research, development, and community space exploring and supporting Sick/Disabled Listening and Music— living, passed, and speculative.

Led by a growing, loose, network of sick and disabled musicians, the project seeks alternatives to the formal and systemic structures which guide our ideas about what music can be, where music can show up in our lives, for whom music is accessible, and what ways we are able to support each other. How do we seek Sick Musical forms? Sick ways of making, worlds of sound, that embrace our states of being, our states of desire?

*SICK as in having/working with illness, as in being ill, as in being disabled in its infinite forms, as in mad, as in deep grief, as in addiction, as in definitions beyond waiting for doctor diagnosis, as in moving and belonging to often horizontal community, as in being sick and tired of it, as in is anyone well in a sick society?

*MUSIC as in transmission of sound or vibration, as in connective expressive tissue, as in joining or making traditions of rhythms and storytelling and ritual, and sonic waves touching our bodyminds, or traces diagrams and words conveying motion over time.

*CENTER as in a place to convene, as in a reversal of capitalist geometry : what if sick people were centered,  not discarded to the margins ?  as in what if we push further into the center of our sick and disabled desires in our practices, in our solidarities and support?
